Freelancer calculators in Ireland
What tax do freelancers pay in Ireland?
If you work for yourself in Ireland, you're taxed on your profits (income after allowable expenses) through three charges:
- Income tax — charged under the standard 20% and 40% bands, reduced by your tax credits.
- USC — the Universal Social Charge, applied across several rate bands.
- PRSI — Pay Related Social Insurance, which builds your social welfare entitlements.
The exact rates, bands and thresholds are set by Revenue. We list the 2026 figures our tools use on the methodology page, sourced from revenue.ie.
Which calculator should a freelancer use first?
Most freelancers price work as a day rate. Start there to see your equivalent gross salary, then move to the net calculator for an after-tax estimate:
- Quoting a project? Use the day rate to salary calculator.
- Comparing to a permanent job? Use the net salary calculator.
